The Downtown Vancouver Association is an organization of interested community organizations and businesses who gather around interests and issues of concern to our community to consider and respond to initiatives that could impact Downtown Vancouver.
The DVA engages people in informed discussion and promotes and supports ideas and initiatives that contribute to our common interests.
Our interest is to create an economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable community, make Vancouver more attractive as a place to visit, and improve the quality of life for those who live and work here.
For 60 years, the Vancouver Foundation has been a philanthropic leader, supporting people and communities throughout BC. We have developed knowledge of the many issues affecting our city and surrounding region. The Foundation has created Vancouver’s Vital Signs to share this knowledge with decision-makers, communities and the many organizations and citizens who work hard to make this city a better place to live.
The inaugural Vital Signs is a snapshot of the City’s and Region’s wellness and livability. Vancouver joins Toronto, Victoria, Ottawa and Montréal as part of a national Vital Signs initiative supported by Community Foundations of Canada.
The online version of Vancouver’s Vital Signs provides comprehensive data, source information, and links on indicators of the city’s livability and wellness in twelve key areas. Our citizen panel of nearly 200 individuals with deep knowledge of Vancouver issues, provided Citizen Grades and Priorities in each key area. A summarized version of Vancouver’s Vital Signs is also available as a printed report.
We hope Vancouver’s Vital Signs will spark dialogue, discussion and debate among people who care about civic issues and want to act upon them.

In recent years, Vancouver has struggled to maintain a level of community spirit with many members of the community voicing concerns about Vancouver’s state of ‘event health’.
The Vancouver Board of Trade has taken a role in reviving the city’s sense of community pride and spirit through the Spirit of Vancouver, a campaign to harness public and corporate sentiment in support of the city and region.
Creating the Spirit of Vancouver campaign has rallied community leaders to the challenge of revitalizing community spirit. The response indicates the Spirit of Vancouver has tapped a wellspring of community interest and support.
The Spirit of Vancouver organization is looking ahead and inviting community leaders with ideas and resources to become involved in creating events under the Spirit of Vancouver banner
